PICkit 2 Starter Kit - The PICkit 2 Starter Kit is no longer available from Microchip. You may be able to find one on EBAY but since I used them in my C Programming books, I worked with Nuts & Volts magazine to create a replacement.

The kit included:
PICkit 2 Programmer, Low Pin Count Board, PIC16F690, USB Cable, CD with MPLAB Software

All of the parts of this kit have easy to get replacements as described below.

Nuts & Volts Magazine offers my books and a replacement for the PICkit 2 Starter kit using the recommended replacements below.

Recommended Programmer Replacement:
The PICkit 2 files were open sourced by Microchip so you can find many clones or even originals being sold on EBAY. You can even build mine per the directions on this site.
One of the best clones though is this clone named ICP02 from PICCIRCUIT.com
It incorporates the USB connection into the design so you don't need the USB cable.

Recommended Board Replacement:
You can get the board from MicrochipDirect.com under the part number DM164130-9. It won't include the PIC16F690 used in my book but those are available anywhere.
A replacement for this board is coming soon as well so you can build your own or just buy it from Nuts & Volts.

You can get the MPLAB software from the Microchip Archive as well from the link below.
