BASIC Programming is Still my Favorite

As I spend more time re-learning the old style BASIC for the new modern day Maximite computer, I'm reminded how far programming has advanced but also how easy BASIC is for me to write programs. I learned it a long time ago and never really forgot it.

Great Cow BASIC has been another BASIC language I use often that I find incredibly easy to get something running on a PIC. Add to that is the fact that I've written 1000's of programs in PICBASIC over the years as well. So I guess I'm just a BASIC language programmer at heart.

I like the power of C but it took Arduino, which essentially simplified C down to what the Great Cow BASIC and PICBASIC have done for years, to get the hobbyist to jump on board in large numbers. The CCS C compiler offers the same simplified style format for C but the price is far more than the "Free" Arduino compiler so cost is also a major factor for the home hobbyist.

After having used all kinds of C compilers and BASIC compilers and BASIC Interpreters, I've decided to focus more of my free  time helping out the BASIC programmers out there who don't want to learn C or Arduino or at least would prefer to program in BASIC.

I'm still working on updates to my C books and won't ever give up on it completely but in the future look for more projects, articles and blog posts about BASIC. It's really my preferred choice and I believe I'm not alone.

I guess I just made my first New Years resolution.

    About Chuck

Chuck has been programming with PIC Microcontrollers since there were only five devices. Now there are over 700 and growing. He also has a lot of fun 3D printing designs using his Davinci 3D printer and TinkerCad software. In this series of blog posts and occasional videos on his YouTube Channel he tries to help you get started with electronics and 3D printing.
