Why I Prefer Apple Products

My son plays Goalie for University of Massachusetts - Lowell and I can't be at many of the games so I watch them online. I've found the best way to watch is to use my iPad mini to get the game and then use AirPlay to broadcast it to my Apple TV box so I can watch the game on the big screen 42" TV. It works great as both the picture and sound come through without glitches.

So when I saw that Microcenter had the iPad 2 on a Black Friday special for $279.95, I jumped at the chance to get one for my in-laws (who need the bigger screen to see) so they could watch the same way we do. But to display the image on
the big screen I decided to try and save a few dollars by getting the Google Chromecast. I read a lot of great reviews about it and it said I could broadcast videos with ease. It's about 1/3 the cost of Apple TV.  So I bought one at BestBuy.

The setup for the Chromecast was a bit painful as we had to try twice to get it to connect. Then we had to wait several minutes for it to update but that's fine. But once we had everything working, we thought anyway, we discovered there was no way to broadcast the website video to the big screen.

We even used Google Chrome as the browser and still no way to do it. We went online and verified it will only do that from a PC not from a tablet. I don't know how I missed that but I did. It won't even work on an Android tablet. And this thing has been available for a while now so it's not like its too new. It seems like Google comes out with a great product and then just kind of drops it when its not interesting anymore (i.e. Sketchup). I know I've been guilty of that before. I hope they update this thing in the future but for now I'll just stick with Apple.

So I packed up the Chromecast and it's going back and Apple TV is in their future. I once again proved to myself why I prefer Apple products. They just work.
